Tangalle Fishery Harbour is the first man made fishery harbour in Sri Lanka. Department of fisheries initiated the construction of this first fishery harbour in 1955. Subsequently Ceylon Fishery Harbours Corporation financed to construct several fishery habrours, until Ceylon Fishery Habrours Corporation was established in 1972.
Harbour is situated facing the bay and is well protected from South-West Monsoon.
